Now teachers are stuck, as they don\u2019t want to guess or accuse anyone unfairly. But they also don\u2019t want to ignore the problem. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
They need help\u2014and that\u2019s where AI detectors<\/strong> come in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Just like AI writing tools are growing, AI detectors are popping up too. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Today, we\u2019re looking at two of the biggest AI Detectors: STEM Forged and GPTZero. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Both are designed to detect the AI written content. But which one works better?<\/p>\n\n\n\n In this article, we\u2019ll cover how accurate they are, how easy they are to use, and how well they handle different kinds of AI and human writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Let\u2019s dive in!<\/p>\n\n\n\n Before diving deeper into the comparison, let\u2019s have a quick look at what both tools are. <\/p>\n\n\n\n STEM Forged<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n STEM Forged<\/a> is an education-focused company based in Boise, Idaho. <\/p>\n\n\n\n In early 2024, they saw that more and more students were turning in work written by AI, and teachers didn\u2019t have the right tools to check it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That\u2019s when they launched their STEM Forged AI Detector.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n It was part of a bigger system\u2014an entire learning platform that also included an AI Lesson Creator and AI Tutor. <\/p>\n\n\n\n But the AI Detector was built to help teachers spot AI-written work and keep academic honesty strong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n When it first came out in April 2024, it had three important features:<\/p>\n\n\n\n A feedback system<\/strong> that let teachers give comments on what the detector flagged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This tool helped teachers understand and respond\u2014which made it easier to handle tricky situations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n GPTZero<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n GPTZero<\/a> was created by Edward Tian. <\/p>\n\n\n\n In late 2022, while on winter break from Princeton University, <\/strong>he saw how fast AI writing tools were spreading. <\/p>\n\n\n\n He realized how they could be used to cheat or spread false information. <\/p>\n\n\n\n So he decided to create GPTZero as part of his senior thesis project. This tools looks at two things:<\/p>\n\n\n\n To compare how well GPTZero and STEM Forged perform in practical scenarios, we followed a testing methodology inspired by ZDNet\u2019s<\/a><\/em><\/strong> widely referenced benchmark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We ran five distinct text blocks through both tools:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Each sample was tested individually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For GPTZero, we considered scores above 70% to indicate strong AI detection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For STEM Forged, which uses a 0\u201310 scale, scores of 7 or higher were interpreted as strong signals of AI-generated content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n STEM Forged takes a different approach: instead of looking at abstract patterns, it scores each sentence on a 0\u201310 scale based on how \u201cAI-like\u201d it sounds \u2014 giving educators a more practical, granular view of the text. <\/p>\n\n\n\n In our test, this method held up incredibly well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n All three AI-generated blocks were clearly flagged with high confidence, and both human-written texts stayed in the safe zone with low scores. <\/p>\n\n\n\n That sentence-by-sentence breakdown seemed to make a difference, especially with more nuanced writing styles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n It handled every block \u2014 from structured to creative \u2014 with consistent accuracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\nIntroduction<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
